Culture Shock Camp, comprised of Marcus “Quese IMC” Frejo and Brian “DJ Shock B” Frejo, is an all-Native hip-hop group originating out of Oklahoma City. Culture Shock’s sound and vibe is defined by its unique and powerful blend of hip-hop and Native music that promotes a message of wellness, unity and Native pride. Culture Shock was named “one of the most celebrated hip-hop groups in the Native American world” by The Source Magazine, one of the largest-selling hip-hop magazines in the country.

In the summer of 2005, Culture Shock Camp toured 20 cities with the “Vans Warped Tour,” playing to crowds as large as 25,000 and wrapped a national 24 city Culture Shock “Pound 4 Pound” Tour this fall. In summer 2006 Culture Shock will launch another tour of cities and reservations nationwide to promote Quese IMC’s latest album “The Betty Lena Project” and to promote Culture Shock’s Native Hip Hop documentary “NativeSouls.” In March 2006, the First Americans in the Arts Honored Quese IMC and Culture Shock Camp for “Outstanding Musical Achievement” for the “Betty Lena Project.” Quese and “The Betty Lena Project” were also recently nominated in the best Rap/Hip Hop Category by the 2006 Indian Summer Music Festival Awards.

DJ Shock B
Brian Frejo aka “Shock B”, often referred to as one of “the founding fathers’ of Native Hip-Hop,” has achieved huge success both in and outside of Indian Country as one of the hottest and most sought after DJs and music producers. DJ Shock B Known for his "party rocker" style, loves what he does and "reps" for Native peoples always. Brian travels nationwide as a DJ and has rocked crowds with headliner musical acts, including: 50 cent; Ceelo; Lil Jon; the Visionaries; 2Mex; Emcee One; Jana; YinYang Twins; Mars Ill; Casper L; Phife Dawg; Roli Rho; Yerba Buena; Z-Trip; Atmosphere; Eternia; Non-Prophets; KnightShield; and various other artists in the past two years. Brian is also a member of the Grammy-nominated Southern drum group, Young Bird.

Quese IMC
Quese’s first exposure to rap and hip hop came through his older brother’s interest and growing success in hip-hop. Quese absorbed the influence of “old school” rappers such as Run DMC and Public Enemy and his contemporary influences grew to include like-minded rappers seeking out and challenging cultural boundaries, such as Mos Def, De La Soul and Common. Quese’s interests, talents as a composer and producer, and his energy propelled him in performances with some of the top names in hip-hop today and MC “battle” competitions across the country.  Some of acts that Quese has opened for include: Snoop Dogg; Ludacris; Tyrese; Cee-Lo; Bone, Thugs and Harmony; Grandmaster Flash; The Pharcyde; Hieroglyphics; Visionaries; and Kumbia Kings. Quese’s most recent album “The Betty Lena Project” was honored by First Americans in the Arts in 2006 for “Outstanding Musical Achievement.” Quese’s forthcoming album “Loud Music” will be nationally released in the summer of 2006. Quese also recently scored a 2nd nomination by the 2006 Indian Summer Music Awards.

The group has a cutting edge style that enables them to take audiences on a unique cultural journey through every performance.  Culture Shock’s award-winning and dynamic sound combined with the powerful and positive message they convey through music, words, and dance leaves a lasting impact on audiences, particularly on Native youth.
Culture Shock Camp is able to provide a dynamic and interactive Native hip-hop stage show that features performances by DJ Shock B & Culture Shock Camp, including Quese IMC. Culture Shock Camp can organize fun contests for youth to participate in including: “Bboy battles,” talent show contests, etc.  Culture Shock Camp will also provide a number of free Native Threads and Culture Shock -give-away items and prizes during the course of the show.
